Empowering IoT Startups to Innovate Faster

The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming our lives and work. IoT devices are becoming increasingly interconnected, collecting and generating vast amounts of data. This data can be used to develop innovative solutions to various challenges, from improving agricultural productivity to reducing energy consumption.

Startups are at the forefront of IoT innovation. They are developing new products and services that transform industries and improve people's lives. However, startups, especially in Africa, often need help accessing the resources and support they need to succeed.

HUBiquitous is a European Commission-funded project helping startups in Africa innovate in IoT. The project provides startups access to resources, training, and mentorship to help them develop and launch new IoT products and services.

HUBiquitous offers a variety of services and programs to support startups, including:

  • Mentorship: HUBiquitous provides mentorship to African tech talent and startups. Mentors are experienced entrepreneurs and investors who offer guidance and support to help participants achieve their goals.

  • Training: HUBiquitous offers a variety of training programs to help African tech talent develop the skills they need to succeed in the global tech industry. Training programs cover many topics, including IoT technical and design thinking skills.

  • Access to resources: HUBiquitous provides participants access to various resources, including IoT learning platform, technical support and IoT prototyping kits.

  • Programs:

    • Talent Program: The Hubiquitous Talent Program is a minimum 4-week program that provides African tech talent with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed in the global tech industry. The program focuses on IoT skills development.

    • Accelerator Program: The Hubiquitous Accelerator Program complements existing Accelerator programs for Techub, Fablabs and Makerspaces with a minimum 1-month program that provides African startups with the resources and support they need to accelerate their growth. The program includes mentorship, training, and access to investors and partners.

    • Community Program: The Hubiquitous Community Program is a platform that connects African tech talent, startups, and other stakeholders. The program provides members access to resources, events, and networking opportunities.

  • Innovation Enablers:

    • Solution Box: The Solution Box is a prototyping kit for DIHs, startups, and entrepreneurs to develop and prototype innovative solutions. The box is equipped with state-of-the-art IoT kits and sensors.

    • Application Business Box: The Application Business Box is a digital tool that helps startups develop and launch their products and services more quickly and efficiently. The box provides access to various resources, including templates, tools, and best practices.

    • MeetHub online platform: The MeetHub online platform is a platform that connects DIHs, startups, and entrepreneurs from all over Africa. The platform provides access to various resources, including events, training programs, and networking opportunities.

Here are some examples of how HUBiquitous is helping startups to innovate in the field of IoT:

  • Smart Agriculture: The Hubiquitous project supports startups developing IoT-based solutions to improve agricultural productivity and efficiency in Africa. The project supports the development of IoT-based sensors that can be used to monitor soil moisture, crop health, and weather conditions. This data can help farmers make informed irrigation, fertilisation, and pest control decisions.

  • Smart Energy: The Hubiquitous project supports startups developing IoT-based solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs in Africa. For example, the project supports the development of IoT-based smart meters that can be used to track energy consumption and identify areas where energy can be saved. This data can help businesses and households reduce their energy consumption and costs.

  • Smart Cities: The Hubiquitous project supports startups developing IoT-based solutions to improve the efficiency and sustainability of African cities. These systems can help to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution and improve the quality of life for city residents.

The HUBiquitous project is essential in supporting startups in Africa to innovate in IoT. The project provides startups access to resources, training, and mentorship to help them develop and launch new IoT products and services. These products and services can transform industries and improve people's lives in Africa.
